A thank you to your child's school, when you are a teacher

Going out of the way (although writing a coherent, thoughtful letter should not really be considered going out of the way) to express positive feedback towards my oldest son's 2nd grade teachers; the same grade level I teach but a different school, a different school district.  Watching him have great year after great year, a constant reminder for me to create amazing days for kids in my room - each and every kid the most important one to their parents.

---

Mrs. Gill and Mrs. Arnold,

I wanted to take the time to write you all and express how appreciative our family is of the start of the year for our 2nd grade son, Ian Coleman.  I am continually impressed with the cohesive professional learning community at Horizon, the thoughtful use of rules and character guidelines, and the implementation of best practices and current educational research throughout the school.  I am fully aware that, unfortunately, complaints are so easily and readily sent along to staff when things go wrong while compliments seem to have a more difficult time being articulated and shared, especially to specials teachers and other school staff.

When I ask Ian about his school days he invariably has some exciting event or learning to share that he participated in during each school day.  He says he "loves" his teachers very much.  We are excited to have been a part of work share classrooms and Mrs. Gill looping (instead of loopy) with Ian's class for two years.  The continuity of instruction and fidelity to the curriculum is commendable.  I have taken many of the techniques and materials utilized at Horizon in general, and in 1st and 2nd grade specifically, and incorporated them into my own classroom and always-revising-administrative-ideology.

Surely we will have Energy Fill-ups, surely mistakes will happen, surely I will still hope for siblings to be allowed in classrooms so mom can help in the room with little brother without needing daycare (ha, sneaky request!), but even in the relative struggles that must inevitably come into play during years of education at Horizon, we are pleased to have such a dynamic and positive elementary school for Ian.

Please pass this message along to any specials teacher or other staff you feel should receive these compliments but whom I inadvertently left off this message.
